Pray and Fast for 2011

Forever Church - Monday, January 24, 2011

As a church community, we want to encourage everyone to pray and fast this week beginning Monday January 24 to empower everyone to establish clear vision and purpose and strength for the exciting year ahead!

Fasting & Praying together is a powerful type of worship to God as our spirit opens up to God more and breaks through a dullness or spiritual blindness or spiritual weariness.

Fasting brings us to a place where we become more sensitive to hearing God’s voice.

When we deny something like food or television or facebook etc. it helps us to desire and hunger more for a closer relationship with the Holy Spirit.

A food fast abstains from food or a type of food for a period of time.

A media fast abstains from reading, listening to and watching, newspapers, magazines, radio and TV, and surfing the internet.

In the book of Mark - Jesus teaches the disciples that the power of God to establish a new level of breakthrough in a person's life is accessed through prayer and fasting.

Other Scriptures for inspiration to Pray & Fast for 2011:

Luke 2:37
"And she was a widow of about 44 years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fasting and prayers night and day."

Acts 10:30 "Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing."

I Corinthians 7:5 ". . . that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer . . ."

Philippians 4: 6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3: 12-14
"I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind & straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Inquire of God first about which fast He wants you to go on and what duration.

Matthew 16:24; 2 Timothy 2:14.

The different types of fasts can be:

40 Day Fast: Exodus 34:28; 1 Kings 19:8; Luke 4:2

21 Day Fast: Daniel 10:3.

14 Day Fast: Acts 27:33

10 Day Fast: Daniel 1:10-19.

7 Day Fast: 1 Chronicles 10:12; 2 Samuel 12:15-18

3 Day Fast: Nehemiah 9:1; Esther 4:15-16; Acts 9:9

1 Day Fast: 1 Samuel 7:6; Ezra 10:6; Jeremiah 36:6

Partial Fast: (Denying 1 or 2 meals a day or Favourite food or drink): Daniel 6:16-20.

Be blessed!

Positioning Yourself for a Kairos Moment

Forever Church - Tuesday, March 30, 2010

The Bible talks to us about the reality of seasons.

In Ecclesiastes 3:1 it says, “to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven”.

Understanding the categories of seasons and time helps to provide a better understanding of what season we are in.

There are two basic types of TIME in the Bible. The first is called CHRONOS time and the second type of time is called KAIROS time.

CHRONOS: this is time as we know it, the ticking clock that cannot be moved backward.

It is now time, ever-moving forward time.

Chronos time is also defined as a space or succession of time, a continuing of time, a forward process.

KAIROS:
this is a specific moment of God's divine intervention in our everyday lives.

God enters into Chronos time with a door of opportunity known as a Kairos moment.

Kairos time is also defined as the due season, a short while, God opportunities, the right time, and the chosen time.

Be inspired to study the Sons of Issachar in the Old Testament in 1 Chronicles.

The Sons of Issachar understood the times and seasons and knew what Israel should do...all their brothers were at their command.

They were commanders in King David's army and understood battle conditions.

They were mighty men of valour.

The Sons of Issachar had a unique distinction apart from the other tribes (clans) of Israel because they understood the times which gave them great wisdom and knowledge to position themselves for divine opportunities – for Kairos moments!

Get ready and be expectant and walk in a Sons of Issachar anointing!

Are you positioning yourself for a Kairos moment?

Spending time with God is essential because the distractions of this life can cause us to sleep and miss that Kairos moment!

We cannot risk missing those God opportunities of provision, protection, blessing and destiny that will come our way in this season.

Be blessed!

The Power of Embracing a New Season

Forever Church - Thursday, March 18, 2010

So 2010 is not just a New Year – but the beginning of a new DECADE. Opportunity to walk into a completely new season!

When you study the life of Peter, you can receive a greater understanding that there is power in embracing a new season. When we commit to fully embracing a new season we inevitably enjoy positive change in our lives.

In Matthew Chapter 4 versus 18 to 20 it says:

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers; Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.”

There is no doubt that when Peter was called to follow Jesus that he was faced not only with many changes in his life, but many challenges.

1. His FAITH was challenged:

By stepping out of a storm battered boat to walk on the water, Peter had learn to walk by faith. By overcoming the Faith challenge – Peter had authority over the same elements that caused others to be afraid.

2.
His FEELINGS were challenged:

One minute Peter was proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God, and the next minute he was being rebuked by Jesus. By overcoming the Feelings challenge – Peter learnt to swallow his pride and discern God’s will over his personal opinions.

3. His TRADITIONS & PREJUDICES were challenged:

When Peter followed Jesus into Samaria (traditionally Jews didn’t go into Samaria), Peter overcame the traditions & prejudices challenge. Peter developed an inclusive spirit which empowered him to no longer exclude people because of traditional rituals or prejudice attitudes.

4. His HUMILITY was challenged:

When the Son of God, the Light of the World, the Alpha the Omega, the Beginning and the End, lowered Himself to the point of a servant to wash Peter’s feet - it helped Peter to learn that he was never too important to serve.

In this new season, in this new decade, embrace change and face challenges with a heart of boldness and victory like Peter! Position yourself to overcome challenges because this is God’s way of establishing positive change in our lives.

Be blessed!

Breaking the Power of Disappointment

Forever Church - Saturday, November 07, 2009

So what exactly is this thing called Disappointment?

DISAPPOINTMENT is faced when our expectations or hopes have failed to be met. Everyone experiences disappointment in their life. But if it lingers in your heart it can prevent you from moving forward into a new season of promise. When not dealt with, disappointment can be like a tick that has embedded its head under the skin of an animal. As the tick feeds off the animal’s blood supply it injects venom into the same blood stream causing paralysis, restricted vision and severe dehydration.

3 Decisions to Break the Power of Disappointment

In the book of Ezra in the Bible, the people of God return to their homeland after 50 years with excitement, only to be immediately hit with immense disappointment. They realise that the glorious Temple of God has been utterly destroyed by their enemy. All that remains is rubble and ruin. Rather than just staying defeated and giving up, the people of God make three specific decisions to break the chains of their disappointment to enable them to move forward.

1. REBUILD the ALTAR

The people of God first decide to re-build the altar even before they start to rebuild the temple. Why? Worship must always come first when defeating a spirit of disappointment. To overcome disappointment - build a fresh altar in your heart and lay that disappointment at the feet of Jesus.

2. RELAY the FOUNDATION

After rebuilding the altar, the people of God then relay the foundation of the Temple of God. Little by little, day by day, week by week, they work to clean up the mess. When you are disappointed and don’t know what to do, get to work and relay the foundations in your life. Get the basics right:

  • Read God’s Word
  • Pray
  • Get Organised
  • Re-visit your Goals
  • Get to Work

3. PAUSE to PRAISE GOD

Once the altar was rebuilt and the foundation was laid, the people stopped and gave thanks to God. They did not wait until the entire building was complete to praise God. Don’t wait until your life is perfect to praise God. Start praising Him for what He is about to do as you break out of your current disappointment and take steps into a new season of promise.

Breakthrough Time

If you are facing disappointment in your life right now and you sense it is holding you back, then study Ezra Chapter 3. Be encouraged to rebuild the altar in your heart, relay the foundations in your life and pause to praise God. Get ready to breakthrough!
